Blogger's Quilt Festival!

Amy's Creative Side

I just finished this quilt a couple days ago and I am so excited to share it with you!  My daughter calls it Rainbow Scrappy.  I love it for several reasons.  I used my favorite scraps to make it.  Each piece reminds me of a quilt I have made, especially the border because that fabric is on my bed quilt.  The entire top is from scraps and I still have more left over!

I quilt for our church's quilt ministry and have been wanting to quilt something special on the quilts but haven't known what to do.  This week I had an idea to quilt words around the border.  But which words?  Our quilts usually go to those who are hurting, but I thought a healing verse would be too hard to start with.  So I decided to quilt some names of Jesus separated by a little motif.

I printed out the words I wanted to use and laid it out on the quilt.  It was like doing a puzzle to get the right fit.  I used the words like a pantograph, but they were upside down or backwards.  Fortunately, it wasn't too hard to trace them that way with the laser light.  You just have to think which way the letters go and do the opposite.

I am glad I tried something new.  Maybe next time I'll use a bolder thread!  I haven't made myself a quilt except for my bed and now that it's done I love it so much I want to keep it.  I need to get busy and make another quilt for the ministry!

Thanks for looking and enjoy the festival!

  12. Such a beautiful quilt, Shannon, and I love that you used words in the borders. That's one of my favorite things to do on our ministry quilts - but I usually just throw in words like "peace" "joy" "hope" "love" in the quilting on the body of the quilt. Kind of makes it an I-Spy quilt! And it echoes our prayers for the recipient. I really enjoy following the news about your quilt ministry - keep up the good work!!
